Not if is it the last fossil in its line before the line goes extinct.
Transitional fossil doesn't so much describe the position of the creature in the continuous evolution of its line. Rather it refers to the role of the fossil in illuminating the transition from one previously known discrete position on that line to the next previously known discrete position.
