There was quite an interesting column I read once, which argued that the religious don't actually believe what they say that they do, or at least not as fervently as they make out. If they really believed there was a heaven above, and a hell below, they would spend all of their time preparing for it. Sod this crappy mortal existence! There's an eternity of bliss up there with the Big G! That's what they'd say. So, I think everyone, atheists and religious wackos alike, would be affected.
