The barbarians destroyed the empire after the empire had become somewhat Christian.

Yes, but I'm not sure why you're sharing that with me. My point earlier had to do with how 'barbarian' was how the Greco-Roman world saw everyone else, whether in a pejorative sense or not. This would have included Persians, North Africans, Germanic and Gallic tribes, Jews -- all of them.
