When I was coming out of religion all it would have taken to keep me in was one shred to show that Jesus was unique. One shred that would have differentiated him from the masses of other preachers at the time. And now? That would be a step. A HUGE step. It would help. But would it be enough? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. Now it would help if I had more.
I was one of those metaphorical Christians, who took the whole of the Gospels as allegorical or metaphorical. So the veracity of the Gospels is unimportant. The uniqueness or divinity of Jesus would be a BIG step in the right direction. The problem comes in that the next needs are impossible. The historical events of the OT are not true. The early church had no cohesion, and no unified theology or philosophy. If there was a god guiding it, wouldn't there be?
