Deer/vehicle accidents are common in my area. Few years ago I hit one (I had the RoW) and knocked it into the ditch. It was thrashing, apparently seriously injured. I grabbed a piece of steel pipe from my van, and grimly approached the deer to end it's torment.
Despite it's injury, it saw me and apparently recognized my intent, and it wanted no part of that. Turns out a 3 legged deer is WAY faster than I am these days. Called the law enforcement center, and the staffer chuckled at my concern and said the coyotes would make quick work of it and not to worry.
I'd think far more deer in my area are 'winged' by cars than hunters. Coyotes (and the local puma) appreciate our misfortunes as much as the auto body shops.
