I don't think they're socialism either, just social welfare. I wish we could be a lot closer to socialism, just like, as you said, our allies are. It doesn't hurt economies at all. Look how Canada actually has more upward social mobility.

It is certainly true that many do want to move up and do. What I think most people don't get in our "hard work" marketing, is that there will always be a ratio that do not. But that doesn't mean if they don't that they are less deserving. I like the term "productivity" instead. If your workers are not stressed out, physically, or financially, and they don't have to work 50 billion hours a week, and have a life outside their jobs, they will be more productive and care more while on the job.

Point is there will always be different income levels. Simple way to know the economic right is full of shit is to go into any fast food place when the highs school and college kids are in school. Many depend on those jobs to support families and are not students. Who do they think is working there when the kids are in school?

If someone moves up I am happy for them, but there will always be jobs at the bottom that are filled by people other than teens and young adults. 

I kid you not, in Brisbane, I really got a good sense that even their lowest paid were a hell of a lot happier and more stable than here in America.

There should be no abject poverty in America with our GDP. There should be no poor class either. There really should be a lower middle class, middle class, and rich.

Yes, in Aus the minimum is $15/hr or was. Maybe they raised it again. I'm definitely for a living wage for everyone. It proves that economies don't fall apart when you do that.

Well the big part of our decline is we went from post WW2 investment, to allowing greed and the right wing hijack 1 party. 

And the worst part is that when you look at global economic history, and compare it to ecology in terms of evolution, the same things play out. Let one aspect of the system get too abusive the system will collapse.

Humans no matter the ideology miss this. Arguing a more open or more closed system is pointless. Revolutions in either direction have happened. It still ultimately amounts to balance and just like any other life, you cannot have an invasive climate where one species, in the case of humans, one political sect, economic class or religious view dominate.
