I've heard of plenty of things that sound weird or 'eerie,' but I don't necessarily think 'supernatural' is the answer. As has already been said, "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer
That said, I know that there are atheists who believe in all sorts of non-material, supernatural, or even spiritual claims. There are atheists who believe in life after death--that there is some form of the body that transcends death and that these 'souls' can either congregate (some form of heaven), inhabit single places (hauntings), or even jump back into the cycle for another round (reincarnation). The common theme for atheism is that, regardless of the beliefs, we don't see that there is any need for a god at the helm.
