Questions about genders ... male/female

One theory is that males began as a kind of parasite. If you start with hermaphrodites, each fertilizing the other then growing eggs/fetuses/whatever, there could be a mutation so that an individual fertilizers a hermaphrodite, but doesn't in turn bear eggs. Bearing eggs/young is a serious cost, so this would be prosurvival. <---Huge simplification of very complex idea
