Not from reading the bible. That's just something you do after the fact, if at all. You first become a Christian because you grow up in the faith or because you are influenced by a charismatic preacher. Then you go to bible group or whatever, and concentrate on the few bits that resonate with you. The bits you find ridiculous, with more good will, you will simply feel need interpretation and the right approach to make sense, etc., you can always make it work if you don't ask too many questions
