I hope that was a gut reaction that you made before putting your brain into gear. There is no doubt that there is some hard-wiring of our brain and that sometimes it is contrary to logic and enlightened thinking. We must use intellect to overcome that.

Do you really wish 1000 years of torture on the perpetrator? What good would come of that? Does a perpetrator's pain really make things better for his/her victims? What does it say about the person who would inflict such a punishment.

Reject vengeance. It is not part of enlightened world-view.

I said it out of anger. I don't really mean it though.
