Every read "A History of Pi," by Petr Beckmann? Other side of the political spectrum, but just as odd in it's twists and turns into modern politics, or a least what was modern politics in 1976. It includes an anti-communist rant and an anti-environmentalist rant. Still makes a fun little history of western math tour.
