13% of the world are convinced atheists. Not surprisingly, China leads in that regard, with Japan as the next runner-up. The top ten also includes the Czech Republic, France, South Korea, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Iceland, and Australia. Ghana, Nigeria, Armenia, Fiji and Macedonia are the top five most religious countries, Globally, from 2005 to 2012, 'religiousness' dropped by 9% while atheism increased by 3%. 'Religiousness' (claiming to 'be religious' dropped 13% in the USA, from 73% to 60%. Atheism rose in the USA from 1% to 5%, though I suspect that is at least partly a difference in the willingness of people to identify as atheist rather than merely nonreligious on surveys. I don't expect a proportional gain in the 2012-2019 period, which would make us 25% of the population by 2019, but I would be surprised if our percentage of the population hasn't risen to 9 or 10% by then.
