Here's one for you...
Ten days before I gave birth to my oldest, I found out that she was going to be born with Down syndrome. When I told the family this, my grandmother immediately thought we should pray it away so that when Jordan was born, she wouldn't have it.
It doesn't work that way, I explained.
She was adamant about it. Dragged me to a catholic church, where even the priest there told her it doesn't work that way. Then she asked if there were any surgeries that could be done to "cure" it. I said no.
Blood transfusion? No Gram.
Radiation? Me getting frustrated - No.
Chemo? Eye rolling - No. Stop it.
Therapy? Sorry. Not that either. It's a part of her DNA, Gram.
Can they replace it? Sigh. What about this do you not understand, Gram?
She decided that my child needed a miracle and started up a prayer circle of other clueless women.
Doesn't work that way either, I sighed.
Some people.
