No car nut will ever put them in the same league. Why? Passion. Flair. History. Tesla just doesn't have that I'm afraid. Tesla is a different approach and has it's own great attributes, but they're totally different companies. Hell, Tesla is different to most every other car manufacturer out there, which is simultaneously it's biggest plus but also, in my opinion, detrimental when you want to compare because I don't think they can be.
I think the Tesla Model S could go against any Alfa, and is comparable to the Cayman and below on the Porsche line. To compare it to Supercars or Hypercars like Ferrari, Bugatti, or Lamborghini is a little tough.
Of course it doesn't have the history, but it is making history, and while it would cost a lot to have a charging station in your house, it would also cost you a lot to build a gas station at your house. There are charging stations popping up every day. I'm in small town Tennessee, and the Kohl's (dept store chain) here has 4 rapid charge stations in the parking lot. The more ubiquitous the fully electric car is, the more this will happen. The supercharging station is included with the top two models, and the regular charging is included with all models. So you can still do it at home.
Soon you'll be able to charge your car at work, at the shopping mall/stores, and at converted gas stations. All it takes is a super billionaire who can overcome the monetary influence of the oil companies.

Whyforwhat you say that?
I got some Stillwater "A Saison Darkly" and some Founders "All Day IPA," a fantastic session ale.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
