Generally a Sig P229 like the one used to shoot Michael Brown ejects spent casings to the rear.

If that is true then what the forensic evidence gather at the crime scene says about the location of the shooter and victim is two shots were fired from the general location of the police car. Michael Brown then took off down the road and Wilson started after him on foot.
What the location of the body in relation to the rest of the shell casings says is that at some point Brown turned around and start moving back towards Wilson. Wilson began shooting and retreating. Michael Brown advanced past the point where Wilson was originally standing when he started shooting the second time before he fell.
