Does Religion make you nice?

@Godschild if a shepherd lost a sheep would he just let it go without wondering what happened to it or at least try to recover it? I think that it was at least the pastors duty to try and find out why I had left the church and or at least try to convince me to come back. That should have been in my opinion his primary concern, also I don't think that our religious beliefs or lack thereof should stand in the way of friendships as long as there is mutual respect for each others beliefs or lack thereof when you are in each others presence.

4What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?5And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.6And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.7I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Luke 15:4-7

This parable was the response that Jesus gave the Pharisees and the Scribes when they were bitching about him eating with sinners.
