"Rainbows" were not in the original text, I believe. If you look at earlier versions, it just says "bow".
They ripped off a previous mythology with this story, in fact several, which may explain this confusion.
There seems to be some dispute over exactly what the "bow" meant, be it a warrior's bow, a necklace or a rainbow.
This video outlines the ripoff, but it doesn't mention about the "bow" bit. I'll see if I can find something more about that.
