As much as some people say otherwise, opinions can change on the internet, due to discussions. Nothing is going to change unless you discuss it, and bouncing opinions back and forth is what a discussion is. I'm not sure what gives you the idea that some discussions are pointless. I guess we could have discussions about politics and current events, but if you come from a nation that's largely religious then religion is meshed in with more important topics, such as whether a minority group should have the same rights as everyone else. Religion will eventually come up, and that's where the discussion will lead.
Personally I don't give a crap whether a watch goes with a tie. Just get a watch, and be done with it. but if someone wants to make a forum about the ins and outs of fashion, I'm not going to go there, make a proclamation, and say everyone is wasting their time if they respond to my post.
