In response to your question I think that you certainly can. One doesn't have to be religious to think that abortion is immoral (all that is required is to think that a developing human (or foetus if you prefer to stick to latin words) is still human and therefore to destroy it would be murder). As for the rights of women and minorities, I'm not sure which rights you are referring to (apart from the 'right' to an abortion), but I wouldn't have said that republicanism entails scepticism towards the rights of those people(again, apart from the right to an abortion). Can you give some examples? (I live in the UK, so I identify more with stated Republican policy and philosophy, not as familiar with their actions in Congress)
