Indoctrination by internet

I completely and fundamentally disagree. All I saw when scanning through the thread was OP coming back to thank everyone for their contributions and saying that it has helped alleviate the stressors that they have been feeling.

I personally know a family that certainly suffered through a number of mental illnesses including depressive illnesses; and when they began going to a church again (not my old church - another one) it was quite remarkable to see the level of kindness and support shown to them from their new congregation. And it made a very real and positive effect in their lives, that I and others could clearly recognise.

And I know how vulnerable to that family losing the support of their congregation would be to their ongoing health and happiness, and I certainly wouldn't ever try to interfere with their clearly effective social-support structure on the basis that I disagree with the validity of the Christian gospel.

I see a similar thing in the thread you've posted - this person (the OP) may be quite vulnerable to social isolation and other harms if they were to leave their church. All I saw in the thread was people who were trying to be supportive and accepting of the OP - support and acceptance may be things that this person really needs. They're not trying to indoctrinate the OP, the OP already has their own faith in the Christian God.

My advice to you Tubby is to be very careful when you judge others - you could end up doing more harm than good.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
