Well, you've got Ann Coulter claiming she wants the 19th amendment repealed (she has said this repeatedly) and for years Rush Limbaugh has referred to anyone even remotely concerned about women's rights as "femi-nazis." These represent the more extreme which help to make less sexist ideas more palatable (see: Overton Window), such as reducing pregnancy leave, the dismissal of the problems single mothers face (and besides, they deserve it!), opposition to anything that smacks of "pro-choice," etc. After all, this all falls under the category of "Traditional Family Values" (yearning for a time when negroes weren't uppity and women knew their place, and atheists and gays didn't exist... yeah, right).
It seems contradictory to have women running for office and at the same time be in favor of policies that would reduce women's rights or place them in a lower status, but then I'm not familiar with many (if any) women Republicans that are pro-choice, for example (Olympia Snowe is the only one that comes to mind, and many Re-thugs don't trust her anyway, saying she is "too liberal," etc.).
Re-thugs don't mind women being in their ranks-- it is great PR (it was not a coincidence that McCain chose Palin as a running mate after Clinton lost the primaries). The only catch is that anything perceived as "feminism" is baaaaad.
