Food is visual. Mold chocolate mousse into the shape of a turd and it won't taste as nice.
Flavour is the key.
The art is to lure you in to enjoy the flavour more.
If it doesn't taste good, then it is the same art as a painting on a wall.
There's also word art on the menu.
Different combos of culinary terms can make a meal much more attractive.
Many years ago I worked at Club Med on Linderman Island.
We had ice sculptures, fruit chopped up into beautiful patterns, fancy cheeses, bowtied waiters, silver service, etc.
Most of the food I tasted was bland.
But we never got complaints.
