Although it sure sounds like the writer was describing how the sky was really a dome stretched over a flat disc, indicating some very wrong beliefs about how big his universe was, and how it was constructed.
Do you even understand what the phrase "curvature of space" means.

The universe has been determined to be predominately isotropic (the opposite of being anisotropic). This is 'flat' in a special sense, not like a disk.
