There's this belief in atheist circles (shared by some people anyway) that if you don't read the whole bible, go to church, are against gay marriage and abortion and pray everyday then you're not a "good" Christian or muslim or jew. You can be a Christian and do anything you want with the bible. You can think it's 100% divine or 50%, or just a book that should be mostly ignored, or something in between.
One could be a christian without reading or knowing the teachings contained in the bible, but I doubt that such a person could be a "good" christian. A "good" christian would seek to increase his knowledge of God's word, which is contained in the bible. Lack of interest or motivation to do so doesn't seem to apply to a real follower of Christ.
