Texas textbooks...Again...
#18
RE: Texas textbooks...Again...
I haven't posted an introduction yet, so forgive me for jumping in, but I thought I'd give y'all another opinion from a Texan.

Ah yes, my great state has been embarrassing itself more than usual lately. Don't expect it to change, there are too many backing the fucktards on the State Board. In fact, when the first round went through for debate, every Democrat and the more intelligent Republicans walked out...literally walked out. There were thousands protesting the ignorance the Board is trying to spread, but alas, they just don't give a shit. They are convinced the rest of us are trying to indoctrinate (hah! the irony!) their children into believing a false history. Apparently, the history textbooks are too hard on the Christians (thanks to the Atheists and Liberals infiltrating this country's values), paint McCarthy as a bad man, don't show the true evil of the terrorist religion of Islam, and misrepresent the founding fathers who they believe wanted a Christian nation where Christian morals/beliefs are taught (excluding that horrible man, Thomas Jefferson) among other things. Not to mention we Atheists (and Liberals which are automatically assumed to be Atheists) are the evil scum of the earth.

Basically, they believe the textbooks as they are, are full of Atheist/Liberal propaganda. Any evidence to the contrary was ignored. Several members admitted they want a Conservative curriculum. Some of them also believe America is the nation chosen by God to be the light of the world and therefore American Exceptionalism should be taught with globalization seen as a deliberate attempt to undermine America. To be fair, not every Republican on the board, nor every Christian for that matter, feels this way, but the large majority certainly do.

I love my state and I love being Texan, but damn, why do the idiots have to be in control? Oh, did I mention the Board members don't even bother hiding that many of them are Evangelical and part of the Christian Right (which would be fine if they'd leave it out of the boardroom, but noooo...)? Oh, and that they believe Christian values, a literal interpretation of the Bible (well, many of them want this), and Creationism should be taught in public school? They actually want Creationism taught as an alternative to evolution, as if it is just as plausible, with just as much (or more) scientific evidence supporting it.

Anyone who tries to point out errors in their arguments or "facts," is deemed unpatriotic, socialist, liberal, Atheist, or worse.

...Hey, anyone wanna come down and help me round up the morons? Maybe, we can sacrifice them to appease the Gods. Big Grin
