Welcome, and thanks. I've been trying to get my friend to join this forum and he'll be glad to know there's at least one other sane person in Texas. We keep hearing of them...but it's like trying to catch sight of a rare white elk.
It's frustrating to people outside of Texas because the media gives so much room to the fucktards (LOVE that word, btw!), and very little to anyone else. So when faced with stories of textbook changes that could potentially affect the rest of the country, we have to wonder what the hell exactly is going on inside those borders. There are blog/forum noises that there are actual educators working against the bureaucrats and dentists currently running the board to raise education standards, but I guess it makes for a better story to point and laugh - "haha, look at what Bush's state is still doing!" - than to focus on what the unsung heroes are doing.
