It may very well be people wishing me well and I wouldn't say for certain they aren't just trying to be nice, but it's still condescending as fuck, because it implies that you need to be prayed for, as in there's something wrong with you and also that the person praying is somehow magically superior to you in terms of brownie points with the big guy and has the authority to ask him to fix you. Personally I find this incredibly insulting.
I was once told by a jesus-obsessed acquaintance that she would pray for me and in response I said something along the lines of 'tell god I love satan's dick'
