Get this through your head. Being an atheist has nothing to do with this ridiculous dilemma you've invented. It has to do with whether you believe in God or not. If you don't, then you're an atheist. Now, having arrived at that point, what is an American atheist supposed to do besides use the only legal tender available to them in that country?
What about if I sing a Christmas carol like 'Once in Royal Davids City'? Or attend a wedding of a friend which is held in a church? Or admire Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel? Does that make me a hypocrite too?
