I think printing a kid is probably a good idea if you plan on handing him an AT4. Printing a kid because he;d rather live here than whatever hellhole he came from...meh, not my cup of tea - and if we're just doing it so that douchebags won't feel too uncomfortable, we're going to fail horribly on that count. It aint the fact that we don't have their prints and DNA that makes them uncomfortable..lol.
Why hold immigrants to a higher standard than citizens..a military standard? Hooah? LOL, I get your pragmatism, but I think it gives up far too much.
Asking for biometric information on undocumented immigrants is not even close to what we expect from people who join the military service. We already fingerprint and photo ID immigrants. They've got Homeland Security so far up their ass I'm surprised DNA sampling isn't already done.
But I'm not talking about immigration, I'm talking about them coming into the country and staying as a guest when they don't have an ID or a passport and come from a country where it's easy to be involved in violent criminal activity without there being a record of it in any criminal database. For some of them, crossing the border will grant them the first validated ID they will ever have had. I understand why people are worried about some of them committing serious crimes when they get here. DNA samples mean if they misbehave, we'll have a better chance of catching the perpetrator. I hate the precautionary measure, and would be alarmed if it was forced on American citizens who are civilians...but the people who this applies to won't be citizens, and they aren't being forced: if they're not willing to give up a DNA swab, they can elect not to cross the border, or cross it illegally.
Though if the Republicans would let it fly without the swab, it's fine with me. I strongly doubt they'd buy my plan WITH the swab in the next ten years. I'm somewhat hopeful for the ten years after that, when we'll be under enormous pressure to replenish our shrinking workforce and tax base. We'll be a lot better off if we do it sooner than later, though.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.
