Whoever would say that would be wrong. Your belief is evidence (not very good evidence, granted).

What people usually mean by 'evidence' is that they want it to be from a credible source (such as an impartial third party, or a scientific study). In an example of what I mean... the Catholic church claims it has done an investigation, and that the number of bishops who engage in pedophilic actions every year is ~1/510. While it's all well and good of them to give statistics... they remain not credible (to most of us), as not only do we have many more parties claiming the victim... but the investigation was headed by the one party most damaged if the statistics are viewed negatively... a party that has shown time and again throughout history that it is more than willing to lie to look good.
