A "near death experience" is just a close call usually involving oxygen deprivation and unusual brain activity, not to be mistaken with actual death experience in which breathing and heart stops for a longer time and there is no brain activity. Can I believe he had a close call with some altered brain states? Sure. What of it?
I confess I don't take dreams to be a literal forecast of future events either. As with dreams, NDE's need to be taken with some salt rather than literally.
