Amber Guyger Convicted

Any time when the killing is wrongful, there is no license to kill.  

But there are different degree of egregiousness to wrongful killing.   I don't think her case is one of the more egregious.    If she opened the door, went in, surprised, came back out, and then decided to draw her gun, go back in and shoot the alleged intruder, then I would agree she is a killer and deserved 20 years.

But that's not what happened.

She probably was high on adrenaline, probably did feel threatened, and shot Bo in an exhibition of very poor judgement.

We as civilians cannot use the excuse of "I was tired and confused" to go around shooting people. Even if those people are perceived threats. Unfortunately, our perceptions in cases like these do not change reality. The reality is, Botham Jean was in his own home, not bothering anyone, and Guyger was the intruder, and the threat - the threat that happened to be fatal. Guyger deserves far more than ten years, considering she took an innocent man's life for no legitimate reason other than she was "on autopilot."

Not to mention, we should be holding our LEOs to a much higher standard than civilians - that's why they're LEOs. These people are supposed to be well-trained, resilient and should have a heightened ability to assess "dangerous" situations and act accordingly. Guyger displayed a clear lack of all three.

I agree the judge lost all professional detachment and acted in a way inconsistent with the requirements of her job and profession.

I think the brother of the victim who hugged the convicted acted in a admirably nobly and humane way that is beyond any reproach.    I do not even begrudge his ad hoc proselytizing.

Totally. I don't understand what the judge was thinking.

Don't need to relax, cuz I'm not riled up.

That's usually what people who are riled up say.

And of course, they sure can grieve the way they feel appropriate--And I am free to comment as I see fit.

And the way I see it, the defendant's brother begging to hug that woman and yammering on about Jesus was a sad, sad testament to just how damaged some folks's brains are due to indoctrination/Christianity. There are too many Black people especially who have been brainwashed into be WAY too forgiving of this sort of fuckery. Frankly, I'm sick of the entire narrative--The expectation that we should be the better people and turn the other cheek and forgive motherfuckers who see fit to mow us down like cattle. 

The narrative warrants pushback IMO, and I don't mind saying so.

And fuck that judge, especially. Handing that twat a Bible as she brush away the defendant's tears like some goddamned mammy.
I mean, what in the fucking Oprah Winfrey was that all about?

You can frame it however you like; it comes off like you telling people they're wrong for feeling how they feel, which is silly.

Would I forgive someone who killed my sister/brother/father/mother like this? Nope. But I'm also not going to tell other people how to grieve.
