Sociopath? Possibly, but very human,fitting easily within broad parameters of human behavior.
It has been my observation that we sanctify/hero worship or demonise those we perceive as 'special' IE especially good/talented/ successful or especially bad,nasty,violent,.murderous etc.
In my opinion we do that to distance ourselves from such people saying "I'm not like THAT". We then don't have to bother trying to be better than we are, and convince ourselves we could we ever do the same horrible things as X Y or Z/. Of course we could,it's only a matter of circumstance.
In her book 'Eichmann in Jerusalem' Hanna Arendt coined the term 'the banality of evil' to describe the utter ordinariness of some of the worst Nazi criminals. Evil people rarely see themselves as evil.
