Finally got round to 'Mr. Holmes', the one with Ian McKellen as Holmes on his last case.
I am a tremendous Sherlockian purist, and tend to be unfairly critical of anything not in the Holmesian canon (Robert Downey, Jr should have been hit with a very thick stick), but this film was absolutely delightful. McKellen's Holmes is in the early stages of dementia and it is touching and sweet to see him a little more doddery than many of us are used to. McKellen is so good in this that I can almost forgive him for whoring himself out to the X-men franchise. Almost.
