I kind of watched Top Gun Maverick, or at least the first hour. I mean, I have never watched anything like this. Every 5 minutes either we or the characters discover what a badass Tom Cruise is. Just when they thought he was this super badass, they discover he is even more badass.
So, I wish that there was more conflict between the characters. Like maybe Maverick has become trans (woman) since the last movie but they are forced to call him back to teach and fly because he is the only one who can do the dangerous mission. Now, this would be a real movie with conflicts. But they are just not badass enough to do it.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
