Yes I don't like the Hobbit films so far they seem to all show with little substance.
Why he didn't do the Sil Marrillion I don't know.
'The Silmarillion' is unlikely ever to be made into a film, unless it gets battered out of all recognizable shape. Unlike 'The Hobbit' and LOTR, 'The Silmarillion isn't a novel as such - it is a collection loosely connected stories about the First Age. Widely regarded as unfilmable. Additionally, it isn't in the public consciousness the way the other two are. Not a lot of BO potential.
Then again, Peter Jackson is a big enough whore to take a whack at it, so who knows?
