Ok, these aren't 'movies' but I thought they are worth sharing. The local public library has several installments of the Jazz Icons series, DVDs that show entire live performances of a variety of Jazz giants as close to their primes as can be had. Most performances were filmed for European television. In the past few days (to the dismay of my SO), I've seen performances by Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Coleman Hawkins, and Art Blakely and the Jazz Messengers. Next up: Count Basie and Duke Ellington.
These DVDs are indispensable if you love this music. I can't recommend them highly enough.
