Cutting peat for fuel. And miserable, filthy, back-breaking work it is. We didn't actually need to do it, but my father felt that cutting turf 'built character'.

My dad the very same thing but in Flordia it was picking oranges, or laying bricks, or roofing, or cutting down trees, or anything else he could find for us to do..
