Ah, I wasn't actually watching the video, I was listening to it while I had another window open over the top so I didn't see the headphone.
As for sickeningly cute, yes, it was a compliment - reminds me of a cartoon character and that makes me smile; I had included a smiley-face emoticon but I guess emoticons don't work well for someone who is blind, sorry. Does your phone not read out something like "Smiley emoticon" when those sorts of things are included in a post?
It's terribly fickle about reading emojis, if someone uses emoji keyboard it'll read about 95% of the time. Any other way is up in the air as to wether voiceover will recognize it.
