It doesn't excuse the awful thing he said to Jack, but it does put it into context.
Bullshit. Nothing that he said could ever be out into any sort of context that could be deemed acceptable. Ever. The fact that you still try to find good in him makes me worry. He will not get help. He will not accept true responsibility for his words. He will continue to blame others and excuse away his behavior because there is something wrong with him. As long as he knows people will offer him pity and attention, he will milk a sob story for all he can. He's been told dozens of times to move on and get help after Sam died.
I remember how many people went to bat trying to help him when he threatened to kill himself. It was scary and many people, myself included, were worried sick. It was all a ruse to get attention. He. Doesn't.Want.To. Get. Better. Do you understand that?
He has sunk to a low. So low that he actually considered raping an innocent woman. You should be angry about that. Stop trying to appeal to his decent side. He has no decent side.
