My student- a 26 year old woman- was walking home from a night course at the college when she saw a woman being assaulted. She stepped in and put the guy down, and they ran. The lady was hysterical and very angry that her pepper spray hadn't worked. After examining it, my student found it was "homemade" pepper spray...literally a small squirt bottle filled with water, with pepper from the shaker poured in.
In our house in Germany I put a Naga Jolokia pepper in a bottle of Vodka and it's been in so long now the pepper has turned from red to white. I know it'll work because just a sip of it makes my mouth explode the moment I swallow. It's like having a time bomb in your mouth. If I took it back to the UK and put it in a spray then it would be an offensive weapon. I was a keen grower of superhot chillies in Germany, way hotter than the Naga Jolokia so I could brew up something far more potent if I wanted. I actually made it to bring to parties.
I've always wanted to learn Krav Maga. I also learnt Jeet Kune Do, Kali and Wing Tsun. Kali was particularly fun. Because I've had to move around a lot I just learn what's available.
