Interesting. What looked like one of the good cops to die was actually the latest example of power corrupting.
Human beings are flawed and limited. We need to recognize that fact and design our systems to account for it. EVERYBODY needs to have oversight. Nobody should feel like they are part of a system that allows them to get away with bad shit because if they do, they are likely to fall to temptation. People are generally good and well-intentioned - but only to certain limits. We need to acknowledge those limits and account for them. Nobody should be above scrutiny. Not leaders of state, not judges, not scientists, not engineers, not physicians and certainly not police officers. Everybody needs to be on the hot seat to keep them honest. It's no shame or insult; it's just logical acknowledgement of our limitations. Maybe someday we will evolve to the point where we are more individually trustworthy but not now.
