You guys still explaining to Wryetui although he seems to given up. Nevertheless let me try to explain to him on his Christian Orthodox example. I remember watching documentary that was part about Romanov family and how, because the little Crown Prince had such a horrible case of hemophilia, the queen practically lived in the church praying to the saints. - Now just imagine if someone told her that instead of praying they gave an enormous financial boost to the medical science that they find the cure, like there is one today, the little Crown Prince might have had an actual chance.
But that was not how people thought back then and that's why today when someone is having incurable disease people organize foundations to collect money to invest in scientists to find cure.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
