You just have to look in context."
I suppose I should add something to this post, but I am going to a date with a Russian beauty (thanks God there are Russian women!)
All religions pull some sort of version of this, including Jews and Hindu's and Buddhists and Muslims when you tell them you are not buying their story.
It amounts to the same thing, "If you would just blindly swallow my interpretation".
The problem all religions have is that every umbrella label has competing sub sects that do not agree with how to interpret holy writings or how to follow holy people.
Humans simply don't want to see the reality that morality isn't in old clubs or old books, but in our species evolution. Our species ability to use cruelty or compassion is in us. There were no written religions or boarders 200,000 years ago in the early days of our species. We can see other animals display empathy and compassion for not only their young, but even other species.
I would say however, the violent people in ANY religion, including Jews and Hindus and Buddhists, and to say there are none is absurd, but just like we complain about Christianity and Islam, that the violent ones in our species are following their tribal writings far more closely than those who are more westernized and have learned to shelf their tribalism.
Our species evolved to be social animals, thus for the most part, we defend that which is local and that which our parents hand down to us.
