Went back to Fort Funston on the southern end of San Francisco's ocean-side again today. Got there at 7 a.m. when it was still pretty dark, walked for a couple hours in time to watch the sun light up what had been dark.
Managed to get a good photo of each dog and discovered a sculpture of a dog right along the ocean that I'd never noticed before. Behold, the lord our Dog.
Someone built it up on the side of a concrete structure along the beach and painted it. You can tell it is a popular target of graffiti too. The graffitied structure can be seen behind Smokey in this surprisingly good photo of him. It's hard to get the light right to really see his face. The statue of the holy dog is visible just above his right ear.
On the way back up the slope to the car I got this photo of Heidi after the sun was up.
