Usually that's not even a button, just a notification. My car turns the passenger airbag off when no one's sitting in the passenger seat. Replacing/repacking an airbag after a fender bender can be expensive.
Having the passenger side airbag in a truck kill a three year old is also quite expensive, for the manufacturer.
You don't really think the car companies care if you have to replace one of their overpriced safety features, do you?
