He intended to build on it more (add spats, vest, a gunbelt, etc) over time, but this year he ditched that idea and went with the mad scientist thing instead. He still loves steampunk, and so he'll keep making his own coppery rifles and whatnot. You'll see his Mad scientist in a few days is steam-punk-ish also.

I didn`t notice, probably because it`s not that uncommon to own such a instrument overhere - but no one bother to learn how to play them.
I guess that`s some amazing skill your husband has aquired.
Is there something like a "trend" or "fascination" for medieval Europe in the US? Because here the castles everywere and village centers in which people were publicly torchured simply remind us on a daily basis of how cruel that era was.[/quote]
Some people certainly are fascinated by it, I suppose because of the fact that we are almost all descended from immigrants over here, so it's a way to remember our own heritage. We used to belong to the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism), but haven't done that for a while now.
Yeah, we sort of ignore the bad parts of European history, and tend to idealize the good stuff, I guess, since we aren't forcibly reminded of it everywhere we look.
