GC

Or even believable.

I totally believe he prayed that, for sure. Alas my prayers for world peace, the end of famine, a miniature pink elephant with sparkly wings, and many other things have gone unanswered as well. Belief in prayer does not equate to action or any affect whatsoever in the physical world. Now, the act of meditating/praying does. And it does irregardless of creed so take that as you wish. Praying/meditating activates the same part of the brain for everyone, including rabbi's, christians, monks, muslims, nuns, etc. And that is the part of the brain responsible for spacial awareness. So, what mister GC is doing you might consider trying in your own version (I prefer meditation and yoga) because it does have positive effects on your body. It lowers blood pressure and contributes to memory and heart health when practiced regularly. Just like if I spent ten minutes a day strengthening my toes so I can wear flat toed ballet shoes. Repetitive action over time does change our bodies. Prayer and meditation doesn't, however, feed starving stomachs or stop flood waters from filling up your house. That's just silly.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
