The only way I've seen tartarus used is toward the fallen angels and the meaning is to cast down and to chain in darkness, so as far as torture goes for humans it is not seen in scripture.
First off, Tartarus is something that Christians ripped off from Greek mythology. They knew it was a popular "afterlife destination" in that time, so they made Jesus speak of it to boost the characters popularity. Sisyphus is STIL down there as we speak pushing his boulder up that mountain, just to watch it roll back down.
Sure... that isnt torture....obviously Sisyphus enjoys doing that.
Jesus Christ Wrote:"So shall it be at the end of the world [age]: the angels [messengers] shall come forth and sever the wicked from among the just, and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."--Matt. 13:49,50.
Straight from Jesus' mouth. Hell is a furnace of fire full of wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Nope...doesnt sound like torture to me at all.
And when I find myself standing in front of Jesus, I will tell him; "..but I had no reason to fear Hell or your judgement. G-C told me that Hell wasnt a place of eternal torture even though I showed him the verses where you said it was. He said I was taking it out of context... so I figured he was your messenger, so I just took it on his word."
