See, the difference between automotive manufacturers and gun manufacturers is quite simple for anyone with an IQ above their age to understand:
Automobile Manufacturers want their products to be safe, because if they aren't people won't buy them. Same goes for Gas Mileage. It's a selling point to them. The purpose of their product is NOT to kill people. If you hear about people dying in a car crash while driving a Pathfinder, and the Pathfinder earns a reputation as deadly in a crash, then people aren't going to buy pathfinders. So these laws are, to a point, in their interests.
Gun Manufacturers, on the other hand, have a product with one purpose: To kill. So when their weapons kill, they're doing their job. So they don't care how many their guns kill. In fact, the more the better. Especially when it's little children. Because then they can sell more merchandise to psychopathic man-children.

"Tradition" is just a word people use to make themselves feel better about being an asshole.
